The New York University women's track & field team took part in the SWAT Meet, hosted by Swarthmore College in Swarthmore, PA on Monday, May 16.

In just her second collegiate attempt ever in the event, freshman Justina Sanders-Schifano set a new Violet record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.36 to place just behind first-place Misericordia University's Reilly Wagner. Sanders-Schifano's time also has her ranked #19 in Division III.

"Justina is really coming around extremely well," said Assistant Coach Erison Hurtault. "School record, top-20 in the nation and now has nationals on her scope. It was just a huge improvement especially for just her second try at hurdles. Couldn't ask more from her. I'm very proud."

Coming off a school-record breaking run two days ago, the 4x400m relay team captured second in 3:51.44, just behind a squad from Rowan University (3:49.96).

Finishing ninth and still seeking to break her own year-old record was sophomore Ireland Gibson in the 800m with a time of 2:13.00. Senior captain Sarah Sisk trailed in 17th, posting a season-best time of 2:15.95.

Senior Becky Turlip finished 14th in the 1,500m, clocking in a time of 4:39.13. Sophomore Megan Davis came in 43rd (5:27.95).

"Our team is competing well and they keep putting in the effort," Hurtault expressed. "It was another very fast time for the 4x400m. They are still fighting to be one of the top teams to get to nationals. The seniors gave everything they had in, what is true for most, if not all of them, their last race of their careers."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Junior Erica Bohdan recorded a career-best time of 17:59.02 to place 15th in the 5,000m.

- Freshman Alyssa Jean registered a time of 26.79 to finish in 13th in the 200m.

- Senior Danielle Medellin secured seventh in the 100m hurdles in 16.01.

- In the field events, senior Ilana Brown took 10th in the pole vault with a height of 3.01m.
