Chicago Finishes Third at Conclusion of UAA Outdoor Championships

The University of Chicago women's track and field team concluded the two-day University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships with two more event titles on Sunday.

Host school Washington University-St. Louis won the team title with 221 points, while UChicago's women were third with 161.5 points.

On the women's side, the Maroons tallied two victories and 10 All-UAA performances. The high jump duo of senior Nelson Trotter and sophomore Ade Ayoola nabbed the top two spots, with Trotter submitting the top height of 1.69 meters. Ayoola was second at 1.65 meters – 0.05 meters clear of the rest of the competition. Sophomore Megan Verner-Crist was also victorious in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:43.33. That time edged out the runner-up by a mere 0.37 seconds.

The closest finish of the day occurred in the 5,000 meters. In a photo finish, sophomore Khia Kurtenbach's final time of 17:46.53 was only 0.02 seconds behind the winner from Brandeis University. Junior Madeleine Horvath also finished third in that race at 17:51.40.

UChicago was second in three other events as well. Senior Nkemdilim Nwaokolo tossed her shot put 11.87 meters, junior Michelle Dobbs ran the 800 meters in 2:11.76 and the 4x400-meter relay finished in 3:49.01. That relay was composed of freshman Nicole VacaGuzman, senior Mikaela Hammel, freshman Emma Koether and Dobbs.

Sophomore Aleksandra Majka garnered all-conference accolades by taking third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.03) and the 4x100-meter relay was also third in 48.59. The quartet included junior Eleanor Kang, Hammel, senior Alison Pildner and junior Charissa Newkirk.
