From Washington University Athletics
Four student-athletes from Washington University in St. Louis were selected to the 2016 Academic All-District Five Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Junior Daisy Ogede and senior Ellen Toennies earned the honor for the second-straight year, while sophomores Alison Lindsay and Annalise Wagner are first-time honorees.
Lindsay, who has a 4.0 grade point average while double majoring in political science and French, picked up a pair of All-American finishes in track. She was fifth in the distance medley relay at the 2016 NCAA Indoor Championship, and then earned All-America honors in the 3,000 at the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Championship after placing fifth. Lindsay also earned first-team all-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors with a fourth-place finish at the UAA Cross Country Championships, and was the 3,000 steeplechase Outdoor UAA champion.
Ogede, who has a 3.67 GPA while majoring in biology: neuroscience, became the first female sprinter in WashU history to win an indoor national title after racing to a first-place finish in the 200 at the 2016 Indoor Championship. She added a second national title at the meet in the 4x400 relay. Ogede recorded All-America citations at the Outdoor Championship in the 200 and 4x100 relay. She also repeated as the UAA Women's Indoor Most Outstanding Performer in the Running Events after setting four school records and three UAA records.
Toennies, who has a 3.77 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering, was a 2015 NCAA Division III Cross Country All-American after a ninth place finish. She also earned All-America honors at the 2016 Indoor Championship with the distance medley relay who placed fifth. Toennies was also the 2016 UAA Indoor Champion in the mile.
Wagner, who has a 3.83 GPA while double majoring in environmental policy and philosophy, earned All-America honors in two events at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. At the Outdoor Championship, she was part of the 4x400 relay team that was the runner-up, and also added a fifth-place finish in the 800. At the Indoor Championship, Wagner ran the second leg of WashU's fifth-place indoor distance medley relay and was also eighth in the 800. She was also the outdoor conference champion in the 800 and 4x400 relay.
To be eligible for nomination to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore in academic standing with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA, and must be a starter or an important reserve. As members of the Academic All-District Teams, all four student-athletes will be among the nominees for the CoSIDA Women's Track and Field Academic All-America Team.
