Dani Bland Sets School Record in 100-Meter Dash at Emory Classic

The Emory University Women's Track and Field finished fourth out the 26 schools at the Emory Classic this past weekend in Atlanta. The Eagles registered 87 points across the two-days of competition.

For the second straight weekend, sophomore Dani Bland shined in the track events for the Eagles as she scored in two individual events and helped the 4x100m Relay to a fifth place. In the 100m Dash, Bland broke the school record in the finals as she took second at 11.70. The previous school record was 11.90 set by Debroah Adjibaba at the 2014 NCAA Division III Championships.

Bland added a seventh place showing in the 200m Dash at 25.45 while the 4x100m Relay team of her, classmates Dilys Osei, Ariana Newhouse and freshman Kaitlyn Iwanowicz were fifth with a time of 48.66.

Newhouse placed fifth overall in the 400m Dash, crossing the finish line at 56.97. She along with Osei also competed in the 4x400m Relay with junior Erica Goldman and freshman Kaitlyn Leonard. The group was second overall at 3:52.24.

In the 4x800m Relay, Emory saw a pair of top-four finishes led by the "A" relay of Jordan Burgess, Radhika Shah, Nicole Steiner and Gabrielle Stravach as the foursome was second overall at 9:29.48.

Stravach posted another second place effort individually, finishing with a time of 4:40.99. Sophomore Maeve Andrews scored as well for the Eagles in the event, taking sixth at 4:51.77.

The 3000m Steeplechase saw four Emory performers score with senior Mia Eisenhandler placing second in a time of 11:26.25. Other Eagles scoring in track events were junior Tru Powell in the 5000m Run (4th, 18:33.36) and sophomore Hayley Moyer in the 400m Hurdles (8th, 1:08.89).

In the field events, freshman Isabel Saridakis came in second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.22m with sophomore Kaleena Jesson placing eighth at 2.93m. Freshman Nyla Lindo was sixth in the high jump at 1.55m.
