Eagles Finish Fourth at Emory Invitational to Open Outdoor Season

The Emory University Women's Track and Field team kicked off the outdoor season this past weekend with the Emory Invitational held at the Woodruff PE Center. The Eagles finished the two-day meet with 60 points to place fourth out 35 schools that scored. The meet hosted over 1,000 athletes from close to 50 teams.

The Eagles were led by a pair of first place finishes at the meet. On Friday evening, the 4x800 Relay team consisting of Jordan Burgess, Meredith Hughes, Maeve Andrews and Nicole Steiner won the event with a time of 9:46.10. On Saturday afternoon, Ariana Newhouse claimed the 400m Dash with a time of 56.76. Newhouse added a fourth place effort in the 200m Dash, crossing the finish line at 25.47.

On Friday, Emory scored in five more events to go along with the 4x800m Relay team. Mia Eisenhandler took fifth in the 3000m Steeplechase (11:33.01), the Distance Medley Relay of Ileana Zeissner, Gabriela Muller, Erica Fischer and Paige Lesslauer came in fourth at 13:15.24 and Victoria Spiezio took seventh in the 10000m Run with a time of 40:40.27. Dilys Osei and Nyla Lindo added eighth place showings in the 400m Hurdles (1:07.09) and Long Jump (5.23m) events, respectively.

Dani Bland advanced to the finals of the 100m Dash on Saturday, finishing second overall with a time of 11.99 in the finals. She added a seventh place finish in the 200m Dash with a time of 25.79.

Other top finishes on Saturday afternoon included Kaylee Slade (6th, 18:53.56) in the 5000m Run seeded, Dyess Verfurth in the 5000m B Section Run (4th, 19:31.58), Erica Goldman in the 400m Dash (5th, 58.17), Isabel Saridakis in the pole vault (T-5th, 3.07m), Kaitlyn Leonard in the 400m Dash (8th, 58.80) and Osei, Bland, Julia Leventhal and Kaitlyn Iwanowicz in the 4x100m Relay (10th, 49.28).
