Emory Concludes Action at VertKlasse Meeting

The Emory University Women's Track and Field team was in action over the weekend, competing at the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point University. There was no team scoring at the meet which featured 1,500 athletes from 47 different schools, comprised mostly of Division I performers.

Senior Sophie Cemaj and junior Gabrielle Stravach led the Eagles at the meet with standout performances for the Blue and Gold. Cemaj took home first place honors in the 10000m Run as she clocked in a time of 38:26.73, a mark that ranks as the fifth fastest in the event in program history and 22ndcurrently among Division III leaders. On Friday afternoon, Stravach turned in a time of 4:36.46 to finish sixth overall in the 1500m Run. Her time was just .04 seconds off her school-record pace which she set last spring. On Saturday, Stravach placed 13th overall in the 800m Run with a time of 2:18.77. Both times place the Westfield, NJ native inside the top-20 nationally as she currently stands third in the 1500m Run and 26th in the 800m Run.

Freshman Nyla Lindo led the Eagles in the field events as she posted a mark of 11.20m to finish 11th overall in the triple jump which currently is the ninth best mark in the country so far this season. Lindo added a mark of 4.84m in the long jump, finishing 39th overall.

Other leaders for Emory during the two-day meet included senior Mia Eisenhandler in the 3000m Steeplechase (6th, 11:26.76), sophomore Jordan Small in the high jump (10th, 1.43m), junior Tru Powell in the 5000m Run (21st, 18:44.91), sophomore Hayley Moyer in the 400m Hurdles (31st, 1:10.63) and freshman Nicole Steiner in the 400m Dash (47th, 1:04.27).
