Violets Launch Outdoor Season at Emory Invitational

The New York University women's track & field opened its outdoor season at the Emory Invitational in Atlanta, GA, on Friday-Saturday, March 17-18.

NYU collected seven points to finish in 27th place. Jacksonville State University totaled 111.5 points to capture the invitational title.

Junior Lara Dorsky paced the distance runners with her fifth-place performance in the 5,000m. The Lloyd Harbor, NY, native clocked a career-best time of 18:46.20.

In the field, senior Dana Placentra led the way with her own fifth-place finish in the pole vault by clearing a height of 3.07m. 

"Both of them did very well today," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "Lara keeps consistently inching closer to her peak performances. Dana is a consistent performer. She is still looking for her breakthrough day, but her season is already looking up." 

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Freshman Helen Joyner cleared a distance of 34.27m with her toss in the hammer throw to take 20th.

- Junior Erini Farid threw for a personal best 25.88m in the javelin to place 22nd.

- Classmate Alexa Goldman landed in 25th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:13.37.

- NYU's 4x100m squad (freshman Fatimat Ayinde and sophomores Mimi Conti, Samantha Scoggins and Danielle Murray) finished 22nd, registering a time of 50.36.
