From University of Chicago Athletics
The University of Chicago women's track and field team started the outdoor season on a high note by hosting the annual Ted Haydon Invitational on Saturday.
The Maroon women dominated the 14-team field with 265.5 points, easily outpacing second-place Loyola University at 107 points.
On the women's side, UChicago finished first in 11 different events and produced three multiple winners. Freshman Mary Martin led the way with a trio of victories in the 100 meters (12.72), the long jump (5.47 meters) and as part of the 4x100-meter relay alongside senior Eleanor Kang, senior Charissa Newkirk and freshman Alisha Harris.
Junior Megan Verner-Crist topped the 800 meters in 2:18.27 and sophomore Alexandra Thompson cleared 1.59 meters in the high jump. The duo also ran as part 4x400-meter relay (Thompson, Verner-Crist, senior Michelle Dobbs, freshman Shelby Smith) that won by more than 14 seconds.
