Maroons Place Second at UAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The University of Chicago women's track and field team finished second at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday.

With Ted Haydon Track serving as the host site, the Maroon women achieved nine All-UAA (top three) performances on the day. Junior Khia Kurtenbach turned in the squad's most dominating showing of the day. Kurtenbach added to her 5,000 meter title collection by winning the race by a margin of 17 seconds (17:22.04). The junior is the two-time defending champion in the indoor 5,000 meters. Junior Kelsey Dunn joined her on the podium in third place (17:43.21).

After finishing second in the indoor high jump at UAAs in February, junior Ade Ayoola collected her first career conference title in the outdoor high jump. Ayoola's top height was 1.64 meters. Freshman Laura Darcey was third in the event at 1.59 meters.

Three other women placed third individually in their respective events. Junior Megan Verner-Crist ran the 1,500 meters in 4:40.81, freshman Robin Peter clocked 14.85 in the 100-meter hurdles and freshman Alisha Harris sprinted 12.31 in the 100 meters.

The women's 4x100-meter relay finished third in 47.52 with senior Eleanor Kang, freshman Mary Martin, senior Charissa Newkirk and Harris. The women were also third in the 4x400-meter relay (3:57.03), led by sophomore Emma Koether, junior Olivia Cattau, sophomore Alexandra Thompson and Kang.
