Emory Sits Fourth After Day One of UAA Championships

The Emory University Women's Track and Field team sits in fourth place after day one of the University Athletic Association Outdoor Championships on the strength of two All-UAA performances.

Earning All-UAA acclaim for the Eagles on Saturday was junior Paris Wagner in the hammer throw and sophomore Isabel Saridakis in the pole vault. Wagner placed second in the hammer with a career-best mark of 46.60m, moving her into second place on the Emory all-time list. Saridakis bested her previous school record, recording a mark of 3.68m to finished third in the event. Her mark on Saturday topped her prior program top mark of 3.65m set earlier this year.

Emory also turned in scoring performances in three field events. Freshman Rebekah Bondi took fifth in the long jump with a personal-best 5.23m. In the shot put, freshman Leelah Wilburn led the way with a personal-best mark of 11.61m to finish fifth with senior Kora Dreffs (11.49m) and junior Gracie Potokar (11.34m) placing sixth and seventh, respectively. And in the hammer throw, sophomore Kemdi Okafor had an eighth place showing with her mark of 38.47m.

The 4x800m Relay of Maeve Andrews, Tru Powell, Nicole Steiner and Kayla O'Shea rounded out the Emory scoring on the day as the Eagles finished the afternoon with 32 team points. The group finished fifth in the event, clocking in with a time of 9:34.54.

Emory dominated in the preliminaries of the running events, posting five top times and 10 qualifying times to advance to Sunday's championship finals.

Junior Dani Bland registered the fastest time in both the 100m (12.39) and 200m (25.46) Dashes with senior Gabrielle Stravach in the 800m Run (2:13.50 - PR), senior Erica Goldman in the 400m Dash (56.39) and junior Dilys Osei in the 400m Hurdles (1:02.74 - PR) adding top preliminary times. Goldman and Osei qualified for Sunday's finals in the 200m Dash and 100m Hurdles as well with Goldman placing fourth in the 200m (26.26) and Osei taking second in the 100m Hurdles (15.04).

Also advancing to tomorrow's finals was Bondi in the 100m Dash (3rd, 12.70), sophomore Kaitlyn Leonard in the 400m Dash (4th, 58.92) and O'Shea in the 800m Run (7th, 2:17.17 - PR).
