The New York University women's track & field team launched the outdoor season by taking part in the Miami Hurricane Invitational, which was hosted by the University of Miami in Miami, FL, on Friday and Saturday, March 16-17.

Sophomore Isabella Steains and senior Hannah Haley capped off the day for the Violets by finishing in sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 1,500m. The distance duo both recorded personal-best times of 4:57.23 and 5:04.40. Trailing behind in 14th was senior Megan Davis with a time of 5:15.28.

"Both of them had solid runs, especially Bella," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "She keeps getting better under Coach Traynor. It was great to start the season off like that, especially after a tough week of training."

The Violets' 4x400m relay team (sophomore Evelyn Nkanga, senior Ireland Gibson, freshman Noela Franco, and freshman Anna Walewski) placed 14th by clocking a time of 4:11.83.

Sprinters Antonella Cotilletta and Shannon Morgan finished in 32nd and 34th in the 100m dash. The senior and junior registered times of 14.11 and 14.21, respectively. The duo returned for the 200m dash where they crossed the line in 55th (28.99) and 61st (29.64) place in the same order. Walewski followed in 62nd by posting a time of 29.76.

Brianna Yee laced on her cleats to represent NYU in both the long jump and triple jump. The Blauvelt, NY, native took 26th in the long jump by clearing a distance of 4.75m. The senior followed that up by finishing 18th in the triple jump with a mark of 10.18m.

Also in the field, senior Erini Farid placed 12th in the javelin with a throw of 28.77m.

"There is a lot of good potential on both sides," said Hurtault. "Hopefully, we can follow a very good indoor season with an even better outdoors."
