The New York University women's track & field team traveled to Bethlehem, PA, to compete in the Coach Pollard Invitational hosted by Moravian College on Saturday, April 14.

Morel Malcolm captured the 3,000m steeplechase title to begin NYU's day on the track. The senior distance runner recorded a time of 11:54.44, beating runner-up Azia Kalil of Juniata College by nearly 10 seconds (12:04.03). Fellow classmate Megan Davis came in fifth with a time of 12:12.39.

"Morel has come along well in the right time of the season under the guidance of coach Nicol Traynor," said Head Erison Hurtault. "We were proud to see her come out with the win today."

The Violets also struck gold behind the performance of junior Justina Sanders-Schifano. In her first event of the outdoor season, the Sodus, NY, native triumphed over her competitors in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.39, almost two seconds faster than second-place Viviane Orleans from Monmouth University (1:04.26). She missed tying her personal best she set as a freshman by three hundredths of a second. Senior Alexa Goldman followed behind in 13th place by posting a time of 1:10.21.

"It was an excellent run from her (Sanders-Schifano)," said Hurtault. "It was a great indicator of her abilities. She looks like she is in a good spot for the upcoming championship season."
