Sweep in High Jump Highlights Maroons' Final Day of UAA Track & Field Championships

The women's high jump highlighted the final day of the 2018 University Athletic Association track and field championships as the University of Chicago swept the top three spots Sunday at Carnegie Mellon's Gesling Stadium.

The UChicago women's squad took second overall in the six-team meet, scoring 174 points.

Sophomore Laura Darcey added to her jump title collection with the lone event win of the day for UChicago, taking the high jump championship with a leap of 1.63 meters. Darcey won the long  jump Saturday, defending her 2017 outdoor long jump title.

She also won both the long jump and high jump in March's UAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.

The Maroons' Alexandra Thompson and Ade Ayoola completed the high jump sweep Sunday with matching marks of 1.58 meters, respectively. Darcey, Thompson, and Ayoola joined 10 others earn all-UAA honors, finishing in the Top 3 of their respective events.

The women's 4x100 team of Nicole VacaGuzman, Mary Martin, Alisha Harris and Olivia Cattau took second with a time of 49.67 seconds and VacaGuzman was also runner-up in in the 200 meters and 400 meters.

Mary Martin was third in the 100 with a time of 12.92 seconds and senior Khia Kurtenbach added to her Saturday 10,000 championship with a third-place finish in the 5,000, crossing the finish line in 17:22.45. Senior Olivia Cattau rounded out the women's all-UAA performers with her third-place finish in the 400 hurdles (1:06.23).
