Bears Run Away with Washington University Invitational on Senior Day

The Washington University in St. Louis women's track & field program totaled 12 first place finishes to capture first place among the six teams to compete on the second day of the WashU Invitational.

The No. 14-ranked WashU women easily ran away with the lead, tallying 386.5 points while No. 19-ranked Illinois Wesleyan placed second with 134 points.

The women captured 12 event titles and also posted three of Division III's top-10 marks on the season in the process. Senior Annalise Wagner excelled on senior day with a first place finish in the 400m dash (57.33) which ranks sixth in DIII. She also anchored the women's 4x400m relay team of freshman Sophie Grigaux, sophomore Nicky Althoff and sophomore Sara Mesiano with the nation's second best time of the year (3:56.30).

Junior Heidi Nassos posted the top pole vault mark by clearing 3.60m (fourth best in DIII). The Bears added two more first place finishes in field events as freshman Eka Jose reached 11.37m in the triple jump and freshman Rachel Novick leapt to 5.16m in the long jump. Freshman Randal Walker won discus with a throw of 37.53m.  

The WashU women started Saturday off by placing first in the opening event, the 4x100m relay. Senior Caitlin Cheeseboro, Jose, junior Jay Pittman and freshman Caira Watson Haynes were the only team to finish under 50 seconds. The team finished the 400m distance in 49.73. Cheeseboro also added an individual title by winning the 100m hurdles in 15.70.

Senior Alison Lindsay sprinted away from the pack and ran solo for the majority of the 1,500m race and posted a wining time of 4:39.92.

Sophomore Sahara Ensley placed first in the 800m (2:23.53) while freshman Josephine Simon won the 400m hurdles (1:06.37) and junior Abby Martin won the steeplechase (11:16.64)
