Washington Women's Track & Field Team Wins Three Events in Indoor Season Opener at IWU

The Washington University in St. Louis women's track and field team won three events to highlight the indoor season opener for the Bears at the Titan First Chance meet hosted by Illinois Wesleyan University Saturday.

Senior Jasmine Williams won a pair of individual titles to lead the Washington U. women. Williams cleared a height of 1.63m to win the high jump, and added the long jump title with a leap of 5.28m. Sophomore Emily Warner also won an individual title for the WUSTL women, racing to first in the 600 in 1:36.39.

Senior Katie Sandson added a pair of runner-up finishes for the Washington U. women. She finished second in the 60 in 8.02 and clocked a career-best time of 26.78 to place second in the 200. Senior Anna Etherington cleared 3.80m in the women's pole vault, finishing second behind NCAA Division II Missouri S&T's Taylor Cipicchio who also cleared 3.80m. Junior Claire Simons placed fourth with a height of 3.50m, which was just six centimeters off her indoor career best.

The women's 1,600 relay finished third with a time of 4:06.93. Freshman Jack McCarthy added a third-place finish for the WUSTL men in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.66.

The Washington U. track & field teams resume their indoor seasons Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Titan Triangular hosted by Illinois Wesleyan.
