From Case Western Reserve University Athletics
Sophomore Kelsey Aamoth (Solon, Ohio/Solon) broke a seven-year old school record in the 3,000-meter run, and the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team finished fifth at the 2014 University Athletic Association Indoor Championship at Gosman Athletic Center.
The University of Chicago won the team title with 140 points. Emory University (Ga.) and Washington University in St. Louis finished second and third, respectively, with scores of 103.50 and 103. New York University (55) finished ahead of CWRU's 39.50.
Aamoth darted to a time of 10:02.99 in the 3,000m, breaking the previous CWRU record (10:09.64) set in 2007 by former NCAA Champion Esther Erb.
Also on the track, the Spartans' 4x400m relay team of senior Gavriella Pora (Nampa, Idaho/Liberty Charter), freshman Abby Casalnova (Grove City, Pa./Grove City), sophomore Taylor O'Neil (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) and junior McKenzie Braun (Omaha, Neb./West Side) finished fifth in a season-best 4:11.07. Both Casalnova and Braun ran for the fourth-place distance medley relay last night.
In field events, sophomore Emily Harker (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) earned All-UAA honors for the first time in her young career with a third-place finish in the high jump. Harker cleared the bar at five feet, two and one-quarter inches.
The Spartans also had success in the triple jump as sophomore Asante Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) and junior Keri Walter (Cairo, Egypt/Cairo American) finished third and fourth, respectively, with marks of 34'8.5" and 34'7.5". The All-UAA performance was Brown's first career. Walter also placed fourth in the long jump yesterday.
