From Emory University Athletics
Emory University junior Debora Adjibaba was named the
2014 South/Southeast Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year by
the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches
Association of America (USTFCCCA).
Adjibaba, who was named the University Athletic Association (UAA)
Indoor Most Valuable Performer for Running Events earlier in the
year, set school records in four events this season – the
55-meter dash (7.16 seconds), 60-meter dash (7.69 seconds),
200-meter dash (25.30 seconds) and as part of the Eagles' distance
medley relay team (11:59:08). She won the 55-meter dash
at the UAA Championships in a conference record time, in addition
to claiming the Association title in the 200-meter dash and all-UAA
honors in the 4x400-meter relay.
Adjibaba is a two-time all-American, earning the honors with a
fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash and a seventh-place finish
in the 4x400-meter relay at last year's NCAA Championships.
This season, she was selected to compete at next weekend's NCAA
Championships in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash and as part of
the distance medley relay team.
Adjibaba becomes the first Emory woman to win the award during the
indoor season for track events. Former Eagles Lauren Attiah
(2010) and Theresa Ford (2013) each claimed the honor for their
performance in field events.
Adjiababa, along with junior Electra Korn, senior Morgan
Monroe, and the remainder of the distance medley relay team -
junior Stephanie Crane, sophomore Julie
Williamson and senior Emily Caesar – will be
in action at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships.
