Emory University juniors Debora
Adjibaba and Electra Korn and senior Morgan
Monroe each earned all-American honors with top-eight finishes
in their respective events at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track
and Field Championships, helping to lead the Eagles to a
23rd-place team finish.
The three combined for eight points at the meet, as the Eagles
finished third for 23rd in the team standings,
along with eight other schools. The University of Wisconsin
– Oshkosh won the meet with 67 points, followed by the
University of Wisconsin – La Crosse with 65 in
second.
Adjibaba was Emory's top finisher, placing fifth in the finals with
a time of 7.68 seconds, to contribute four points to the team
total. It marked her second-straight all-America finish in
the 60-meter dash, and her third indoor all-America honor
overall. It is the fourth time an Eagle has earned
all-America honors in the meet's shortest sprint, as Regina
Robinson finished fourth in the 55-meter dash in 1995, and Jamie
Edwards claimed seventh in the 55-meter dash in 2008.
Korn broke her own school record in the 400-meter dash, set during
yesterday's preliminaries, claiming sixth place with a time of
56.44 seconds and scoring three points to the Eagles' team
total. It was Korn's second career all-America honor, after
claiming one last year in the 4x400-meter relay, and she joins
Kaele Leonard (2013) as Eagles to earn an all-America finish in the
400-meter dash.
Monroe claimed her first career indoor all-America honor, finishing
eighth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.00 seconds, one day
after setting the school record in the event during the
preliminaries. She added one point towards the Eagles' team
total, and becomes the third all-American in the hurdles in program
history, joining Kahlilah Jennings (1994) and Brittany Donino
(2010) who earned their honors in the 55-meter hurdles.
The Emory Women's Indoor Track and Field Team has now accumulated
16 individual all-America honors and one relay all-America finish
in the program's history. The three individual all-America
finishes mark the second-most in a single indoor season by an Emory
squad.
