From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics
The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team traveled to Columbus, Ohio, for the Ohio State University Tune-Up on Friday, February 20.
Senior Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) placed fourth in the mile run with a time of 5:07.33 while senior Sara Kelly (Madison, Wis./West) was seventh in 5:22.47. Both times were career highs for the seniors.
Freshman Luise Bering (Berlin, Germany) ran the 200-meter dash in a career-best time of 29.25 which was third best among the Division III runners.
Junior Priya Patel (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) and freshman Rhiannon Farney (Winston Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor) competed in the 3,000-meter run, finishing in 11:10.33 and 11:36.68, respectively for the Tartans. Patel's time was a career-best.
In the field events, senior Lauren Maturo (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) threw the shot put a career-best distance of 10.60 meters and the weight throw a distance of 10.72 meters while junior Carly Bair (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) tossed the shot put 8.72 meters, which matches a career-high.
Senior Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) continued to impress in the long jump, leaping past her previous school record by .20 meters, to record a career-best 5.51 meters, placing seventh overall.
Sophomore Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless) finished third in the high jump, clearing 1.53 meters for the day.
