Rachel Tan Leads Spartans to First Place at Baldwin Wallace Mid-January Meet

Senior Rachel Tan (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) turned in two career-best performances to lead the Case Western Reserve University women's track & field team to a first-place finish at the Baldwin Wallace Mid-January meet on Friday at Harrison Dillard Track.

The Spartans racked up 166 team points to finish ahead of Baldwin Wallace University (129.50).

Tan tied for first in the high jump with a career-best mark of 1.62m (5'3.75") and set another career best with a time of 8.89 in the 55-meter hurdles  – also good for second place. Tan also finished fourth in long jump with a leap of 4.88 meters (16'.25").

A one, two, three sweep in the triple jump by junior Asante Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) and freshmen Skylar Braga (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg Central) and Rachel Willard (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) with respective marks of 10.37m (34'.25"), 10.12m (33'2.5") and 10m (32'9.75") added to the Spartans' run.

Braga also finished third in the long jump, landing in the sand with a mark of 4.93m (16'2.25"), and picked up another third-place finish in the 55m dash with a time of 7.66.

Senior Sophia Herzog (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) grabbed another title for the Spartans in the pole vault, sailing over the bar at 3.05 meters (10').

On the track, sophomore Abby Casalnova (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) took third in the 400m dash crossing the line wiith 1:04.86 on the clock.

The Spartans also grabbed the one and two spots in the 800m run as juniors Taylor O'Neil (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) and Juliana Ross (New York, N.Y./Bronx Science) finished the race with times of 2:37.37 and 2:28.04, respectively.

Finishing third and fourth in the 200m dash was junior Cece Hanline (Norwalk, Ohio/St. Paul's) and freshman Brittany Henry. Hanline finished in 28.55 with Henry just on her heels as she finished with a time of 28.58.

The 4x400m Spartan relay team of Ross, Casalnova and freshmen Imani Behrends (San Jose, Calif./Lynbrook) and Marie-Louise Kolste (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) finished first with a time of 4:23.99.
