Nicole Murphy Hired as Chicago Assistant Track & Field Coach

From University of Chicago Athletics

University of Chicago Head Track & Field Coach Chris Hall announced on Tuesday that Nicole Murphy has been hired as a full-time Assistant Track & Field Coach. Her appointment officially begins on January 1, 2015.

Murphy has served as a part-time coach for the throwing events since the fall of 2012. As a collegiate athlete, she put together a very successful four-year run as a member of the UChicago track & field team. Murphy was a multiple All-American, highlighted by a second-place finish nationally in the shot put. She was a seven-time University Athletic Association (UAA) champion in the shot put and currently owns the conference records for the indoor and outdoor shot put. Over her four years, she scored in the UAA Championships a total of 19 times between the shot put, discus, hammer throw, weight throw and javelin.

Murphy graduated from UChicago in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in South Asian Languages and Civilizations.

"Over [Nicole's] past two-and-a-half years of working with the throwers, they have experienced great success and clearly the athletes she has had the opportunity to coach have been quickly developing and responding extremely well to her coaching techniques," Hall said. "Coach Murphy brings a unique perspective to our program as someone who understands what it is to be a student and an athlete at the University of Chicago. It is with great pleasure that I make this announcement and welcome one of our own back into the UChicago Track & Field family."
