The Brandeis University indoor track and field teams had four winners today as the Judges opened the season at the UMass Boston Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Center.
The event of the day for the Judges was the mile run, which saw Brandeis runners take the top two spots in both the men's and women's race.
On the women's side, Brandeis had three of the top six finishers, with sophomore Kyra Shreeve (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) winning the mile with a time of 5:13.59. Shreeve placed nearly three seconds faster than junior teammateAshley Piccirillo-Horan (No. Granby, Conn./Granby Memorial), who finished in 5:16.39. Senior Maggie Hensel (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) took sixth place with a time of 5:30.54.
The Brandeis women had two other winners, both rookies. Doyin Ogundiran (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) took the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.75, about half a second ahead of a runner from Division I Holy Cross. In the 3,000-meter run,Julia Bryson (Quincy, Mass./No. Quincy) picked up where her sister left off from cross country, winning by more than 15 seconds over a runner from Bentley with a time of 10:54.90.
