Tartans Begin Season at Al Hall Freedom Games

The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team began the indoor season at the Al Hall Freedom Games hosted by Edinboro University on Saturday, January 16. 

Sophomore Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) placed third in the 400-meter dash in 1:00.08, while freshman Rose Ciriello (Madison, N.J./Madison) was fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:23.89.

The 4x400-meter relay team of freshman Debarati Bhanja (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany), junior Ariel Tian (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional), Ciriello and Cook crossed first in 4:10.34, while senior Kira Ragazzo (Frederick, Md./Urbana) led the Tartans in the 3,000-meter run, finishing second in 10:48.87.

Senior Taylor Maggiacomo (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) ran the mile run in 5:35.64 to lead the Tartans. Junior Erin Persson (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) was behind her in 5:39.52 with junior Shaheen Essabhoy (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) finishing in 5:40.61.

Freshman Tessa Allen (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Bishop Montgomery) cleared 1.60 meters in the high jump to place second. In the long jump, freshman Autumn Hair (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) was sixth with a mark of 4.84 meters, while Bhanja was seventh with a mark of 4.83 meters.
