Emory Returns Strong at ETSU Invitational

The Emory University women's track and field program was back in action for the first time in 2016 taking part in the East Tennessee State University Invitational in Johnson City, TN this past Friday and Saturday. 

Senior Julie Williamson recorded a new Division III-leading time in her event. Williamson took first in the seeded 800m Run event with a time of 2:15.77, a mark which also ranks as the sixth fastest in school history. Williamson added another first place finish in the unseeded one mile run with a time of 5:20.41. Pietsch also competed in the 200m Dash, finishing 22nd at 22.43.

Other top performers on the women's side were Gabrielle Stravech taking second in the one-mile unseeded run, finishing behind Williamson at 5:23.58. She added a third place finish in the 800m Run unseeded event with a time of 2:25.40. Freshman Maeve Andrews won the unseeded 3,000m Run, clocking in at 11:12.61. In the 5,000m Run, the Eagles saw three runners place in the top-10 led by Ailen Rivell who finished 3rd with a time of 18:17.26. She was followed by Megan Waples (6th, 18:44.85) and Amanda Martin (8th, 18:49.21). Erica Goldman added a 12th place showing the 400m Dash with a time of 59.64.

In the field events, Jordan Small finished 10th in the high jump at 1.51m while Kora Dreffs was 14th in the shot put at 10.95m and 18th in the weight throw at 10.61m.
