Violets Compete at NYC Metropolitan Indoor Championships

The New York University women's track & field team finished in 12th place at the NYC Metropolitan Indoor Championships, which was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY, on Friday, February 5.

The Violets, who totaled 11 points, were the only NCAA Division III school in the 15-team competition.

Individually, Justine Morris shined in the 3 800m ,000m once again. The junior placed sixth with a time of 10:35.31. The distance medley relay team of Sarah Sisk, Ireland Gibson, Wendy He, and Rebecca Turlip also had success, placing fourth in a time of 12:29.11.

In the 60m, Alyssa Jean placed 14th out of 32 runners with a time of 8.02. Anastasia Filimonsteva also took 14th in the 800m with a time of 2:26.69.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Lydia Gui (1:01.03) and Drew Washington (1:01.19) placed 17th and 19th, respectively, in the 400m. 

- Emily Dethefts (5:18.24), Maggie Lalowski (5:22.04) and Kassi Chrysanthopoulos (5:24.43) finished ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively, in the mile.

- Dana Placentra tied for seventh (3.00m) in the pole vault, while Ilana Brown (2.85m) and Erini Farid (2.85m) placed 10th and 11th, respectively.

- Simone Cooper came in 10th in the triple jump (10.27m).

"It was a good day for the entire team," said NYU Head Coach Will Boylan-Pett. "Basically everyone got a chance to compete and it was a positive day."
