From University of Chicago Athletics
The University of Chicago women's track and field team emerged from day one of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships with two event titles on Saturday.
In the team scores, the UChicago women lead the pack with 44 points, followed closely by Washington University-St. Louis with 41 points.
Sophomore Khia Kurtenbach edged out the competition on the women's side with a top time of 17:07.64, which was 0.9 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
One race that was not close was the women's distance medley relay. UChicago blew past all the competitors with a winning margin of more than 12 seconds (11:52.28). The relay quartet included sophomore Cassidy McPherson, senior Mikaela Hammel, junior Michelle Dobbs and senior Brianna Hickey.
A paie of top three finishes earned individual All-UAA honors. Senior Nkemdilim Nwaokolo was runner-up in the women's weight throw with a toss of 14.63 meters. Sophomore Vivian Barclay took third in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.12 meters.
