Maroons Win Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic

Big performances across the board helped the University of Chicago women's track and field team squeeze out a team victory by a half point at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic Invitational on Saturday.

In a loaded field of 11 teams, the Maroons scored 109.5 points to beat out host Wisconsin-Whitewater, who scored 190. UChicago, currently ranked eighth nationally in the latest USTFCCCA poll, also beat out third-place finisher and No. 4-ranked University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The big finish of the day came in the 4x400-meter relay, which posted a winning time of 3:56.12. That time currently ranks third in NCAA Division III. The relay was comprised of freshman Emma Koether, senior Mikaela Hammel, freshman Nicole Vacaguzman and junior Michelle Dobbs.

Dobbs added to her first-place haul by winning the 800 meters by more than five seconds. She finished in 2:14.27. Senior Brianna Hickey took the one mile crown in 5:04.64. UChicago also excelled in the 5,000 meters, where the Maroons captured three of the top four places. Sophomore Khia Kurtenbach's winning time (17:45.48) topped the field by 34 seconds.

In field events, freshman Alexandra Thompson impressed with a top height of 1.65 meters to secure victory.
