From Emory University Athletics

Several members of the Emory University Track and Field teams were in action Friday afternoon on day one of the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships at North Central College in Naperville, IL.

The women’s 4x400m Relay team of sophomores Dilys Osei, freshman Kaitlyn Leonard, sophomore Ariana Newhouse and junior Erica Goldman gained All-America recognition with their seventh place showing in the preliminaries with a time of 3:53.37, the sixth-fastest mark in program history. It is the third time an Emory women’s relay team has earned All-America honors in school history. Osei, Newhouse and Goldman were apart of the Eagles' relay team that finished second overall in 2016.

The finals of the Women’s 4x400m Relay is slated to get underway at 5:35 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturday evening. Fans can track the action with a live video stream that can be found here and live updating results that can be found here.

Junior Gabrielle Stravach began the afternoon competing in the preliminaries of the mile run. Stravach turned in a time of 5:02.83 to finish 11th overall. Despite a strong finish with a time of 34.452 on the final lap, her fastest split of the race, the Westfield, NJ native missed out on qualifying for Saturday’s final by just .61 seconds.

Classmate Max Brown was next up in the men’s mile run preliminaries. Brown crossed the finish line in a time of 4:16.96 to place 12th overall. However, he was later deemed to have run inside the curve and was disqualified.

Sophomore Dani Bland followed in both the 60m and 200m Dashes. In the 60m Dash, Bland narrowly was edged out on making the cut for Saturday’s final, missing the cut by the slimmest of margins. Bland crossed the finish line in a time of 7.737 seconds but was surpassed for the eighth and final qualifying spot by Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Emily Reichenberger and her time of 7.733 seconds.

In the 200m, Bland clocked in a career-best time of 25.32, the fifth-fastest mark in program history, finishing second in heat four. However, Bland’s personal-best time was not enough in the strong field as she placed 11th overall with the top-8 advancing to Saturday’s final.
