The New York University women's track & field finished in ninth place at the Artie O'Connor Invitational on Friday, February 17, taking place at the Armory on Manhattan.

The Violets totaled 27 points to finish behind invite victor St. John's University (115) by 88 points.

Leading the way for NYU were the three pole vaulters. Senior Dana Placentra captured the first-place victory by clearing 3.20m. Junior Erini Farid and freshman Alaris Dayzie followed right behind in second and third place with season-bests heights of 2.80m and 2.65m.

"The pole vaulters are a group headed in the right direction," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "Dana keeps vaulting at or near her personal best. She is going to face a tough field next week. Good things are set for the rest of the season."

On the track, sophomore Sabrina Herrmann paced NYU in the mile, clocking a personal-best time of 5:22.21 to take eighth. Following close behind in 10th and 11th were juniors Hannah Haley and Megan Davis with career-best times of 5:25.09 and 5:26.79. Classmate Lara Dorsky landed behind in 13th by posting a time of 5:30.12.

"Sabrina is someone we see great things from," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "The experience is helping her get where she wants to be. She is up for the UAA challenge. Prepared to take it on."

Sophomore Anastasia Filimontseva steered the Violets in the 800m with her seventh-place finish, recording a time of 2:25.08. Trailing behind were junior Alexa Goldman and freshman Tara Verma in 11th (2:35.46) and 20th (2:41.23) place, respectively.

OTHER NOTABLES:

- In her first action as a collegiate athlete, freshman Helen Joyner finished 13th in the weight throw with a toss of 10.64m. She returned in the shot put to finish 10th with a toss of 9.96m.

- Sophomore Shannon Morgan landed in 25th in the 60m dash with a personal-best time of 9.10. Senior Nicole Lim came in 28th, registering her own career-best time of 9.28.
