The New York University women's track & field team competed at the SPIRE North Coast Indoor Open hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Geneva, OH, on Saturday, January 21.
NYU finished in fifth by accumulating 49 points. Host Carnegie Mellon took the meet victory by totaling 111 points.
To start off a notable day, Mimi Conti captured the victory in the 400m dash by posting a time of 58.47. Evelyn Nkanga followed behind in fifth with a time of 1:01.23.
Conti returned to the track to also take first in the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 26.17. Samantha Scoggins trailed behind in ninth place (27:59).
Not finished yet, Conti laced up her cleats again for the 4x400m relay. She and her teammates (Ireland Gibson, Scoggins and Nkanga) placed second with a time of 4:09.62.
"Mimi crushed it today," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "Amazing day for her. That's the kind of day you want from someone like her. Looks like she has a bright season ahead."
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Competing in her collegiate debut, Fatimat Ayinde secured second in the 60m dash by recording a time of 8.07.
"Another great start for the freshmen," said Hurtault. "The freshmen and the sprinters are showing their potential all the way across the board."
- Hannah Haley and Erica Bohdan finished at each other's heels in the 5,000m in fifth (19:03.62) and sixth (19:08.27), respectively.
- Wendy He led the Violets in the 800m with her eighth-place finish in 2:29.34. Sidney Williams and Megan Davis trailed behind in 17th (2:35.35) and 34th (2:45.26), respectively.
