Chicago Dominates Season-Opening Phoenix Invitational

The University of Chicago women's track and field team began its indoor season on a high note with a victory as hosts of the Phoenix Invitational on Saturday.

In the six-team field, the Maroon women were first with 246.5 points while Aurora University was second with 147 points.

UChicago's women won 10 events on the day. Freshman Alisha Harris made a good first impression in her debut, sweeping the sprint events with wins in the 60 meters (7.99) and 200 meters (26.80). Three other freshmen also captured victories, including Robin Peter in the 60-meter hurdles, Isabel Garon in the pole vault and Mary Martin in the long jump. Junior Khia Kurtenbach dominated the one mile, beating out the runner-up by more than 14 seconds in a time of 5:04.89.

Additional wins for UChicago's women featured junior Cassidy McPherson in the 800 meters, junior Kelsey Dunn in the 3,000 meters, junior Ade Ayoola in the high jump, and the 4x400-meter relay team.
