The Washington University in St. Louis women's distance medley relay team won the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championship while senior Everett Kleven earned All-American status for the men's team during Friday's events at North Central College.
Junior Audrey Western led the distance medley relay team off before passing the baton onto senior Kelli Hancock who worked the Bears to a steady lead before senior Ashley Knudsoncreated even more separation from the field as junior Alison Lindsay brought the championship home as the anchor. The Bears combined efforts led to a season-best time of 3:48.43 which brought WashU home the DMR title for the second consecutive season.
Kleven tied for seventh place in the pole vault with University of Wisconsin-Platteville's Matthew Dwyer clearing a 4.90m height.
WashU also had eight qualifiers for Saturday's event finals. Senior Rebecca Ridderhoffadvanced to the finals in the 60 hurdles (8.95), 200 (25.2) and 400 (56.59). Senior Daisy Ogede also qualified for the 200 (24.96) as well as the 60 (7.64).
Junior Annalise Wagner advanced to the 800 finals (2:13.68) on the women's side before senior Deko Ricketts qualified in the 800 on the men's side by winning his prelim field with a time of 1:52.73).
The women's 4x400 Relay team of Ridderhoff, freshman Nicky Althoff, Wagner and Ogede finished with the second best time in the prelims (3:50.53).
Saturday's field events begin at 10 a.m. with the track events beginning at 1 p.m.
1:35 p.m.: Women's 60 Hurdles (finals) – Ridderhoff
2:05 p.m.: Women's 400 (finals) – Ridderhoff
2:45 p.m.: Women's 60 (finals) – Ogede
3:15 p.m.: Women's 800 (finals) – Wagner
3:25 p.m.: Men's 800 (finals) – Ricketts
3:35 p.m.: Women's 200 (finals) – Ogede
4:00 p.m.: Women's 3,000 (finals) – Lindsay
4:35 p.m.: Women's 4x400 Relay (finals) – Ridderhoff, Hancock, Knudson, Ogede
