Brandeis Records Fall at Boston University and Tufts

The Brandeis University women's track and field team set two school records this weekend at the Boston University Terrier Classic and the Tufts University Branwen Smith-King Invitational.

RECORD BREAKERS

  • Junior Emily Bryson (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) led the Brandeis women at BU in the mile run. She lowered her own school record in the mile run with a time of 4:51.36.
  • Competing on Friday evening, Bryson won her heat and turned in the top-ranked time in Division III this season. She finished eighth overall and sixth among collegiate runners.
  • At Tufts on Saturday, senior Jordin Carter (Fort Wayne, Ind./R. Nelson Snyder) finished third in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 14.78 meters (48 feet, six inches).
  • That throw erased a mark that had stood since the early 2000s, held by Michelle Williams '02. Carter bested the old mark by five cm (two inches).

TOP FIVE NATIONAL MARK

  • Junior Doyin Ogundiran (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) placed 16th overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.42. It was the third-best time in Division III this season.
  • She was second among D3 runners at the meet and 10th among all collegians.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS - BU

  • Emily's twin sister Julia Bryson (Quincy, Mass./North Quincy) also entered the top 50 in the mile run with a time of 5:08.05, which won her heat and finished 43rd overall.
  • Ogundiran teamed with rookies Leinni Valdez (Providence, R.I./Hope) and  Lisbeth Valdez (Providence, R.I./Hope) and sophomore  Lydia Harris(Damariscotta, Maine / Lincoln Academy) to win their heat and finish 18th in the 4x400-meter relay. Their time of 4:07.79 was second among Division III squads.

OTHER TOP PERFORMERS – TUFTS

  • In addition to Carter, the Brandeis women got points from two other competitors.
  • Senior Kyra Shreeve (Northborough, Mass. / Algonquin Regional) placed sixth in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:07.95.
  • Sophomore Danielle Bertaux (Prides Crossing, Mass./Beverly) also placed sixth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:59.30.
