Sarah Cook Sets Carnegie Mellon Record at UAA Championships

The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team finished tied New York University for sixth place at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Case Western Reserve University.

Senior Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Hampton), who finished the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash in a new school record Saturday, bettered her time in the finals placing fourth in a time of 58.06

Junior Autumn Hair (Blue Bell, Pa. / Wissahickon) picked up an eighth-place finish in the triple jump after a season-best mark of 10.67 meters.

Senior Aparna Alavilli (Hanover , N.H. / Hanover) earned a ninth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run Sunday when she finished in 10:23.14. Freshman Parvathi Meyyappan (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) ran to a career-best time of 10:51.40 to place 14th.

For the UAA Championships, the Tartans had two All-UAA performances with both coming on the first day when Alavilli finished third in the 5,000-meter run and sophomore Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) placed third in the pole vault.
