From Carnegie Mellon University Athletics

The ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened its four-match California tour during spring break with a 9-0 win at Whittier College on Friday, March 9. The Tartans are now 11-2 for the year while the Poets fall to 0-2.

Sophomore Vinaya Rao (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and freshman Melissa Strome (West Bloomfield, Mich. / West Bloomfield) gave the Tartans their first point with an 8-0 win at second doubles.

After the Tartans swept through the other two doubles matches with 8-0 and 8-1 scores, Rao and senior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif. / Carlmont) clinched the match with wins in singles play. Rao was one of four Tartans to win 6-0, 6-0, while Sidell won at first singles, 6-0, 6-1.
