Spartans Finish Third at Joe Banks Invitational

The Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team turned in a strong performance at the Joe Banks Invitational, hosted by Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio on Saturday.

The women scored 83.5 points to finish third put of 14 teams at the meet. Otterbein University won the competition with 155 points, while host Ohio Northern placed second with 143.5 points. In the men's portion of the meet, Case Western Reserve placed fourth with 77.5 points, finishing behind first-place Otterbein (93 points), second-place Heidelberg University (90.83) and third-place Ohio Northern (79).

The Spartan women tallied three first-place finishes, with two of them coming from senior Cassandra Laios. Laios finished first in the weight throw with a mark of 16.93 meters and then took first in the shot put with a toss of 13.68 meters. Junior Olivia Newman also added a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.31. Newman also added a second-place finish in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:19.95.

Other top finishers for the Spartan women included senior Rachel Willard in the triple jump (second, 10.57m), senior Skylar Braga in the long jump (fifth, 5.05m), sophomore Isabel Torres-Padin in the one-mile run (third, 5:22.73), senior Nimi Gupta in the weight throw (fourth, 14.54m), sophomore Bailey Flint in the high jump (fourth, 1.51m) and freshman Isabella Jimenez in the high jump (fifth, 1.46m).
