Cassandra Laios Sets CWRU Record at Spartan Holiday Classic

Case Western Reserve University senior Cassandra Laios broke a school record as the women's track and field teaM wrapped up competition on Saturday evening at the Fifth-Annual Spartan Holiday Classic.

The CWRU women finished second out the six teams as they totaled 115 points. The Oberlin women finished first with 155 points, while Ohio Wesleyan finished third with 90.

Laios finished second in the shot put with a mark of 13.65 meters, which breaks her previous school record of 12.64 meters set last indoor season. She also added a third-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 15.77 meters.

The Spartan women turned in seven other top three performances throughout the meet. CWRU earned a first place finish in the one-mile run as freshman Kiera Olson finished with a time of 5:34.71. The Spartans earned four second place finishes as senior Skylar Braga finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.23, sophomore Samantha Kelts placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.47 meters and sophomore Abby Waltz finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 3.20 meters.

In addition, the women's 4x200-meter relay team of senior Marie-Louise Kloster, junior Olivia Newman, freshman Julie Hines and freshman J'Niah Johnston-Reynolds placed second in the event with a time of 1:50.47.

Senior Rachel Willard finished third in the long jump (4.96m) and freshman Madison Vargo finished third in the 800-meter run (2:30.18).
