Spartans Face Carnegie Mellon in 10th Annual Battle for the Obelisk

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams combined for 133 team points, but fell to University Athletic Association rival Carnegie Mellon University in the 10th-Annual Battle for the Obelisk.

The women's squad gathered eight individual titles, with senior Cassandra Laios winning the weight throw (16.78 meters) and the shot put (13.35 meters). Both marks were new meet records. Senior Danielle Kulpins grabbed first-place finishes in the 3,000-meter run (10:44.96) and the 5,000-meter run (18:07.13).

Additionally, sophomore Vanessa Pasadyn set a new meet record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.98, besting the previous meet record of 2:23.05 set in 2011. Senior Rachel Willard won the triple jump (10.78 meters), junior Olivia Newman won the 60-meter hurdles (9.56) and sophomore Bailey Flint won the high jump (1.50 meters).
