The New York University women's track & field team competed at the Metropolitan Championships on Friday, February 2, at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Center on Staten Island, NY.

In a meet featuring all New York Metropolitan area NCAA Division I programs (except for NYU), the Violets finished in 11th place (of 15 teams) with a total score of 16.5 points.

Evelyn Nikanga was the team's top performer, posting a second-place finish in the triple jump. Her leap of 11.90 meters was worth eight points.

"Very strong performance by Evelyn," said Head Coach Erison Hurtault. "A great highlight of the day."

Also out on the field, Erini Farid produced significant points for the team, gaining 5.5 for her third-place (tied) finish in the pole vault. She actually posted her height (2.90m) on Thursday, when that event was held at Manhattan College's Draddy Gymnasium in Riverdale, NY.

A pair of Violet relays also accumulated points for the team. The distance medley relay earned two points for a seventh-place finish (13:08.12), while the 4x800m received a point for its eighth-place finish (10:30.44)

Morel Malcolm just missed earning a point for the team, as she finished ninth in the 5,000m with a time of 19:17.45. Only the top eight across the line score points for their respective teams.

Another ninth-place finish was produced by Sabrina Herrmann in the 3,000m. She posted a time of 10:26.57 and was followed by teammates Hannah Haley (13th, 10:49.32) and Karen Yao (15th, 11:24.65).

Elizabeth Ward and Megan Davis finished in consecutive spots in the mile. Ward took 15th place in a time of 5:43.05, while Davis was next in 16th place (5:47.91).

Isabella Steains posted a 15th-place finish in the 1,000m with a time of 3:11.54.
