Eagles Compete at BSC Icebreaker to Open Indoor Season

The Emory University Track and Field teams kicked off the indoor season on Friday with the Birmingham-Southern Icebreaker held at the Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama. The Emory women scored 17 points at the meet to finish 10th in the team standings.

The Eagles impressed in the field events, scoring in three of the six events contested on the afternoon. Senior Paris Wagner notched the second longest throw in school history in the weight throw, finishing third in the event with a career-best 15.79m. Junior Greta Wilker took sixth in the shot put with a distance of 12.01m and in the triple jump, junior Ayriel Coleman led a trio of Eagles, placing sixth at 10.74m followed by sophomore Natalie Natole (7th-10.30m) and senior Katie Chang (8th-10.28m).

The 4x400m Relay added points towards Emory’s team total as the sophomore group of Michelle Rosenblum, Ayla Kazemi, Rachel Shanahan and Ana Sofia Beltran took eighth with a time of 4:24.42.

Other top finishers for the Emory included sophomore Rebekah Bondi in the long jump (9th-5.16m), senior Ariana Newhouse in the 400m Dash (10th-58.86), senior Dani Bland in both in the 200m Run (13th-25.63) and 60m Dash (18th-7.84), Shanahan in the 800m Run (18th-2:34.74), senior Dilys Osei in the 60m Hurdles (16th-9.31) and freshman Eileen Laverty in the 3000m Run (19th-11:57.14).
