A historic weekend performance by University of Chicago's Laura Darcey was recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Tuesday with NCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week honors.

Darcey became the second Maroon to earn the USTFCCCA weekly national accolade this season. Previously, senior thrower Alexander Scott was picked for the award on January 14.

The track & field senior put together the best performances of her career at UChicago's Windy City Rumble. Most notably, Darcey's winning pentathlon mark of 3,794 points is the fourth-best score in the history of NCAA Division III. In the process, she broke the school record and facility record at Henry Crown Field House.

Darcey's all-around excellence also saw her submit the No. 2-ranked high jump in the nation so far this year. She cleared a school-record height of 1.74 meters. Finally, her long jump of 5.65 meters ranks seventh in NCAA Division III this season.
