St. Louis, Mo., Aug. 12, 2013 - Washington University in St. Louis director of athletics John Schael has announced Luke Young as the interim head volleyball coach.

Young, who was entering his first season as an assistant coach at Washington University, assumes the interim head coaching duties while 15-year head coach, Rich Luenemann, is on an indefinite leave of absence.

"I would like to thank John Schael, associate athletic director Joe Worlund and Washington University for putting their trust in me and offering this opportunity," Young said. "As a St. Louis area native, I have a tremendous amount of respect for Washington University and the tradition of the volleyball program built by Teri Clemens and Rich Luenemann. I am very humbled by this opportunity to lead the program. The volleyball Bears have high expectations for continued success, and the team's goals for 2013 will be no different from any previous season. We have the talent, intelligence and personalities to achieve on the court and in the classroom."

Young served as the assistant men's and women's volleyball coach, as well as the women's recruiting coordinator, at NCAA Division II Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo., from 2008-13. He helped guide the women's team at Lindenwood to a record of 141-65, while the men posted a record of 146-60.

Prior to coaching at Lindenwood, Young got his coaching start as a student assistant for the women's volleyball team at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, from 2003-04. He spent one season as the assistant girls' volleyball coach at Holt High School in Wentzville, Mo. Young also had a two-year stint as the head girls' coach at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Sycamore, Ill., from 2005-07. He also coached in the club volleyball ranks from 2005-11.
