Jessica McAlvany, a former standout on the Emory University
volleyball team, will resume her playing career this fall when she
competes overseas.
McAlvany, who played for the Eagles from 2009 through 2011, will
take her skills to Luxembourg where he has signed a contract to
play for the CHEV Diekirch team, a North Division member of the
Federation of Luxembourg Volleyball (FLVB). The season runs
from August through March. She is the first Emory player to sign a
professional contract.
McAlvany played in a total of 114 matches and closed out her three-year career in the No. 11 position on the program's all-time ladder with 1,105 kills. She posted 54 double-figure kills and finished 12th on the Eagles' career ladder with a 2.89 kills-per-set average. She garnered All-American acclaim on two occasions, capturing first-team honors in 2009 and third-team recognition in 2010. In addition, she was chosen to the All-University Athletic Association First Team in 2009 and 2010 and brought home second-team kudos as a senior.
"We are excited and proud for Jessica to start her professional career in Luxembourg," said Emory head coach Jenny McDowell. "After completing an amazing career at Emory, Jessica has worked exceptionally hard for this opportunity and has developed in to one of the top post-collegiate outside hitters in the country. CHEV Diekirch has signed a great player and fantastic person."
