Two Double-Doubles Spark Spartans to Sweep at Baldwin Wallace

From Case Western Reserve University Athletics

The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team picked up its second straight sweep of a Greater Cleveland rival with scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 25-16 versus Baldwin Wallace University on Wednesday night at Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Spartans (9-4) also swept John Carroll University at home last Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets (12-8) had won five of their last six entering the match.

Statistically, junior outside hitter Carolyn Bogart (New Berlin, Wis./New Berlin Eisenhower) posted her first double-double of 2014 and sixth career with a match-high 11 kills and team-best 13 digs. Junior setter Robyn Marks (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott) added her 15th career double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs.

The key moment in the match came early on after BW had built a 17-14 first-set lead. Out of a timeout, the Spartans rattled off six points in a row as part of an 11-2 run to close the set. That momentum carried well into the second as the Spartans opened with an 8-0 run en route to the set win.

Junior middle hitter Haley Kauffman (Hartville, Ohio/Lake) registered seven kills on just 12 attempts (.583) and added three total blocks to the defensive effort.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Arlayna Newcomer with 28 digs.
