The No. 3-ranked Emory volleyball team returned to the Woodruff
PE Center Friday evening and treated the home crowd to a pair of
wins over South Region foes. The Eagles raised their home
winning streak to 22 matches following 3-0 decisions over Agnes
Scott (25-16, 25-7, 25-7) and Maryville College (25-13, 25-15,
15-16), and in the process upped their season record to 16-2.
Emory recorded a .384 attack percentage (35-7—73) while
holding the Scotties of ASC to -.108 (12-20—74).
Sophomore Shannon Nugent led all players with a career-high nine
kills while posting a hitting mark of .600 (9-0—15).
Nugent also came up with three of the squad’s seven service
aces and chipped in four digs. Senior Leah Jacobs totaled
seven terminations in two sets of action while freshman Madeline
DeShazer hit .875 on the strength of a season-best seven kills with
no errors in eight attempts. Senior Kate Bowman totaled a team-high
14 digs in helping the Eagles to a 34-27 edge in that
department.
The Eagles continued their efficient hitting in the Maryville
contest, closing out that match with a .375 effort (41-8—88)
compared to the Scots’ .010 (22-21—96). Jacobs
chalked up 11 kills, her fifth straight and
13th outing of the year in double figures in that
category, and hit .417 (11-1—24) in the match while senior
Cat McGrath made a successful return to the lineup with 10
successful attack attempts, a .667 hitting mark (10-0—15) and
three block assists. Junior setter Sydney Miles came through
with a solid all-around effort with eight terminations, 29 assists
and eight digs which were second high on the team.
