Emory Claims Two Saturday Wins At Elmhurst Invitational; Tops UAA Rival Chicago

The No. 2-ranked Emory volleyball team finished off its participation at the Elmhurst Invitational on a successful note Saturday, registering a pair of wins. The Eagles upended Heidelberg College, 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-17) before battling to a 3-2 decision (17-25, 25-13, 26-24, 23-25, 15-11) over the University of Chicago in the finale. Emory now owns a 14-2 record.

Emory recorded a .402 attack percentage (45-6-97), its third match of .400 or higher this season, while limiting Heidelberg to just .156. Sophomore Jessica Holler and senior Leah Jacobs tied for the team lead with 11 kills with Holler amassing an impressive attack mark of .556 (11-1—18) while contributing four block assists. Sophomore Sarah Maher hit .471 on the strength of nine terminations with just one error in 17 swings. Sophomore Sheridan Rice topped the squad with a dozen digs while junior Sydney Miles dished out 31 assists while chipping in seven digs.

The Eagles continued their efficient hitting in the Chicago contest, closing out that match with a .387 effort (65-10—142) compared to the Maroons' .262 (63-20—164). Maher established her second personal best over the weekend with a team-high tying 19 successful attack attempts en route to turning in a  .548 hitting performance (19-2—31). Jacobs blasted away for 19 terminations and added eight digs along with a career-best seven (5-2) total blocks. Holler rounded out the team's double-digit kills performers with 10. Senior Kate Bowman led all players with 25 digs.
