The No. 6-ranked Emory volleyball team returned to the Woodruff PE Center in impressive style on Wednesday evening, defeating South Region opponent Piedmont College. The Eagles raised their overall record to 28-3 after registering a 3-0 decision (25-10, 25-15, 25-19) over the Lions who slipped to 18-12.
Playing on its home floor for the first time in over three
weeks, Emory finished the contest hitting .313 (38-12—83)
compared to Piedmont's .000 (20-20—83), the
29th time this year that the Eagles enjoyed an
advantage in that category. Senior Leah Jacobs led a
balanced attack with a team-high eight kills while registering a
.538 hitting mark (8-1—13). Senior Cat
McGrath hit .500 on the strength of seven kills with one error
in 12 opportunities while adding five block assists.
Sophomores Kathryn Trinka andJ essica Holler aided
in the victory with six and five terminations, respectively.
Junior setter Sydney Miles doled out 29 assists while
senior Kate Bowman paced all players with 11 digs.
Senior Olivia Volarich came through with a career-high
tying four service aces, her sixth outing of the season with two or
more in that category.
The decision over Piedmont raised Emory's home record to 10-0 this
year and represented the 26th straight victory at
the Woodpec.
