The New York University women's volleyball team posted a
victory over Brandeis University on the second day of University
Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #1 at Emory University in
Atlanta, GA, on Sunday, October 5.
After dropping two matches on Saturday, the Violets (15-8,
1-2 UAA) returned to the court on Sunday determined not to go home
without a win. The goal was accomplished with a three-set sweep
(25-6, 25-20, 25-9) over the Judges (5-13, 0-3
UAA).
The first set passed quickly as the Violets played with few
errors. The second set was a closer battle. Towards the end of the
set, Josie Luck,
the only player who has been playing full rotation, went out with
an injury.
However, freshman Shelby
Ross was able to step in and get the job done as NYU
went on to pull away in the third set.
"I saw great contribution from Nicole Frias and Zoe Prince from the front row,"
commented Head Coach Jolie
Ward. "Also, Shelby
Ross, Grace
Woolf and Brooke
Tannahill performed well after entering the game later
in the match."
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Prince had a match-high eight kills for the Violets
- Emily Moore also
set a match high with 15 assists
- Frias had five kills and posted a .500 attack percentage.
- MaTia Hughes had
a team-high 15 digs
- Ross compiled three kills, seven digs, a service ace, and a
block
