NYU Performs Community Service

From NYU Athletics

On Saturday February 7, the New York University women's volleyball team took part in the 10th annual NYU MLK Day of Service. The Violets' service project involved volunteering with the NYC Boys Club at the Harriman House location in the East Village of Manhattan on their All-Star Weekend Basketball Tournament.

Since its inception in 1876, The Boys' Club of New York (BCNY) has positively influenced the lives of nearly a million young men. It was founded by philanthropist and entrepreneur E. H. Harriman with the goal of getting boys off the streets of the Lower East Side and into a safe place where they would engage in more productive activities.

"The NYC Boys Club facilities are an amazing place for young adults to socialize and explore a wide range of activities from athletics to education and arts," said Vera Shulgina, a senior on the volleyball team and the President of NYU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)."We were very lucky to get to tour the site and engage with the kids. We are definitely hoping to partner with NYC Boys Club in the future."

"It was a really fun day for us as a team and we enjoyed interacting with the kids," added Zoe Prince, a freshman on the team.
