The New York University women's volleyball team opened its 2014
season with victories over St. John Fisher College and Babson
College on the first day of competition at the NYU Labor Day
Invitational, which is being held on Friday and Saturday, August
29-30, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
The Violets (2-0) posted a straight-set win against the Cardinals
(25-18, 25-21, 25-8) and a four-set win over the Beavers (27-25,
20-25, 25-14, 25-15).
"I liked the way we made adjustments after struggling in the
second set of the first match and went on to dominate the third,"
said Head Coach Jolie Ward. "Then, after dropping the second
set of the second match, we really meshed and played extremely
well."
Gigi Morally finished with a match-high nine kills for the Violets in the first match and added 13 in the second.
Kacy Guajardo led all players with 14 kills vs. Babson
after compiling seven vs. St. John Fisher.
"Kacy was on fire tonight," Ward said. "After being injured for
most of last season and having to sit out a week of practice this
preseason, she really proved her worth today."
